July Newsletter 2024

5th July 2024

The start of July means that we’re focusing on plans for the summer.

If you’re seeking a gift for teachers to thank them at the end of term, our gift vouchers are available in various values to suit your budget.

Since our last newsletter we’ve visited another local family-run business, Musgrove Willows who create beautiful and environmentally friendly coffins, baskets, and fences. They’ve been honing their craft for four generations; thank you Ellen for showing us around.  The full post of our visit is on Facebook, Instagram, and Linkedin.

We will be out of the workshop and on site at the Salisbury Museum Festival of Archaeology 27th-28th July where our have-a-go sessions will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. It will be busy and there are lots of exciting stalls and things to see and try as well as the new section of the museum to visit.

We will also be at the Chalke Valley Village Fete on August 17th, offering have-a-go’s, and chatting to anyone about stonework who will stop long enough.  Again there is plenty to see and do at the fete along with live music, tractors, games, food, and drink.

Thank you for the well-wishes and donations for Tam’s Race For Life, she completed the run in her flower outfit and we’re so proud of her, as always!

Best wishes,
Henry & Tam

In the studio (and on site!)

A recent enjoyable commission Henry and Tam worked on, was a batted finish to a Chicksgrove stone bridge which has been in situ for a while but became slippy with rain and algae. This stone is a local stone and therefore was chosen to do the job (the same stone is used on Salisbury Cathedral) but it needed some extra texture.

The family motto, suaviter in modo – fortiter in re, was carved into the edge and presented some pretty unique challenges! The cold, deep river wasn’t a suitable place for Henry to stand so an improvised headrest was put up and he carved upside down, kneeling! The work is now complete.
